Veterinary Surgeons

Andrew Hamilton BEng(hons), MVB, CertAVP (ESO) (EL), MRCVS

Andrew grew up on a dairy farm near Stranraer, in the Southwest of Scotland. He graduated with a degree in Veterinary Medicine from University College Dublin in 2011, having previously obtained an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde in 2006. Following graduation, he worked in a mixed practice in the Scottish Borders but soon focussed specifically on equine veterinary practice.

In 2017, Andrew moved to Australia where he worked for the highly regarded Ballarat Veterinary Practice as an ambulatory veterinary surgeon, specifically focussing on the management of the Thoroughbred racehorse in training.  He worked closely with the surgeons and specialists in other fields during this time, gaining a huge amount of experience.  Andrew returned to the UK in 2020 and joined the racing vet team in one of the largest and most highly regarded practices in Europe, where he was fortunate to work with some of the leading veterinary professionals across a wide range of fields.

Andrew holds Certificates of Advanced Veterinary Practice in Equine Orthopaedic Surgery; and Equine Lameness Diagnosis and Therapeutics.  He regularly provides veterinary emergency services at Racecourses throughout the south of England and is an FEI permitted treating vet.

 

Andrew Nickerson BVMS, MRCVS

Andrew graduated with Honours from the University of Glasgow in 2022. Following graduation he completed a surgical internship at a Ballarat Veterinary Practice, Victoria, Australia, focussing on orthopaedic and upper airway surgery as well as a wide range of diagnostic imaging. 

After completing his internship Andrew moved back to the UK to join Hamilton Equine in 2024. He has a range of interests across racing practice including lameness diagnosis  and management of upper airway disease. 

Outside of work Andrew enjoys running, cycling and travelling in addition to playing golf when the sun is out.

 

 

Support Staff

Melissa Hamilton

Melissa qualified originally as a Physical Education teacher and has worked both in the UK and Australia. Mel has throughly enjoyed transferring her skills from teaching to the administrative side of the practice and focuses on providing administerial and management support within the business. Mel has been brought up surrounded by horses and has previously competed in British Eventing. Now, she loves to ride when she has the time but is focussed on her two young daughters and walking the family dog, Hilda.

 

Danni Loader

Danni joined the team in March 2024 having previously gained extensive secretarial experience within the horse racing sector. Danni has strong organisational skills and provides administerial and secretarial support which she finds an interesting and varied role, no two days are the same.

In her spare time, Danni enjoys countryside walks, keeping fit at the gym, cooking and cleaning!
